Platinum in Rift 4.o
This is why you're broke
With the implementation of Starfall Prophecy many of the old standard methods of platinum gains will no longer work. New methods will need to be discovered so you can once again be "swimming in plats". For now the pickings are a little slim, but new avenues are being found every day. Stay tuned as this page will get updated as methods are discovered.

Buffs
In instances or elsewhere there are a few buffs you can have that will help you gain platinum faster:
Patron - You inherently gain a 10% coin buff just for having Patron.
Lucky Penny Guild Buff - Gain up to 3/6/9% platinum from looting mobs.
Treasure Map Set Bonus - A 2-piece set bonus for gear that will give you up to 10% additional platinum for looting mobs. Be sure the gear you need for the 10% bonus doesn't make you 10% slower, or it's a worthless bonus.

Crafting Rifts
Crafting rifts have not yet been implemented for Starfall Prophecy and aren't expected for some time to come. In the past they have been very valuable in stuffing your bags to the absolute maximum, but not now, not yet.
However...
Because the current BiS Lesser Essences drop only as greens from Ashenfell Greater Rifts these are a viable item to farm. You can collect your set of essences while you're doing it. Because everyone is farming these expect them to be artificially low in price, but expect them to go up, not down, until better essences are released.

I'm sure almost everyone is familiar with Rift's minion system. You send them on adventures and they bring you things in return. Using them to gather resources for you to sell on the auction house or use to make amenders or other consumables to either use yourself or sell on the auction house is an easy way to make or save some money. So lets get into min/maxing your minions.
Further information about minions can be found on RiftGrate. Khortish did a wonderful job of explaining everything in depth.
- First off, get the maximum number of minions(6 slots total), as this will greatly increase the amount of materials you bring back. This is not free and increases in cost at every new minion adventure slot you purchase. They are worth the investment.
- Level up enough minions so that you don't have to worry about them getting exhausted, then use those minions to their fullest. You'll want about 20+ fully leveled minions to cover all your spots. Once you have this covered you really don't need to level anymore. Just use these all the time.
- When you're online, use the 5/15 minute adventures. When you're offline use the 8 hour or 4 hour adventures. If you have an addon like Minion-Sender to auto-run your adventures the 5/15 minute adventures will greatly maximize your overall adventurine and/crafting materials. Just be careful not to get your bags full.
- With Starfall Prophecy there is now a cap of 5,000 adventurine. Keep under this number by skipping dimension missions and doing the occasional 4 hour mission. These provide better loot in a shorter time than the other missions. They cost 250 adventurine per mission.

Instance Farming
This method of platinum farming has been deprecated. Running old instances no longer rewards a worthwhile level of platinum. However, running the four new zone daily mini-chronicles should net you about 80-100P per character if you do all four. There are a few things you can do to maximize:
Raids
These have all been deprecated. They no longer provide a worthwhile amount of platinum. Only do them if you want achievements or wardrobe.
Chronicles (THIS WORKS!)
There are two 65 chronicles that are worthwhile to farm (verification pending with the latest change):
Shadow from the Beyond - As a new level 65 player you should be able to handle the mechanics for this single person chronicle. For an understanding of the mechanics listen to the smooth voice of Seatin - The Man of Legends. Expect to make 32 Platinum for the first run of the day (Assuming you do the two "save the skelfs).
Rhen of Fate: Hard Mode - This is more difficult than Shadow from the Beyond, butit should be easier at level 70. A full run of ROF HM gives about 40-50 Platinum.
Level 50 Experts
The value of doing these instance is no longer worth your time. Running level 60-65 instances quickly may be of value and will be investigated at a later date. We don't expect these to be of much value either, but it's worth a shot.
Daily Starfall Mini-Instances (THIS WORKS!)
There are four mini-instances that will appear as dailies once you have cleared the chain quest for each of the four open zones. The lowest and easiest rewards 22 platinum. With four of these a day expect to make about 100 platinum per character for a short period of minimal effort. Remember to kill and loot all the mobs in each, as they have a chance to drop level 70 250 hit gear, which still generally sells for 10-50P depending on the specific slot. Make note that your first run of each of these for the story are on a lower level, but as a daily they're mentored to level 70.

Other ways to make money
If you still need to make money after everything you've done above (and you will) there are two other easy things (and one not so easy) you can do:
1. Sell crafting materials (THIS WORKS) - Take Gathering, Mining, Butchering, Fishing and Tailoring. Materials are selling for a minimum of 1P or more. Remember that each node of appropriate level drops two of this item (except fishing), so calculate that in. Take note of the items that sell for the most aren't necessarily the top end items as everyone is still leveling their skills.
1a. Finished Materials (THIS WORKS) - Make note that if you can craft amenders or finished gear you can sell the finished material for between 100-500P. Appropriately priced amenders of just about any kind sells well, and usually quickly. Even buying all the mats you can still double your investment.
2. Starfall Dailies (THIS WORKS) - From what I've seen so far your dailies will net you about 6-10 platinum each depending on what you're doing. Stack these up and you can add plat quickly. Here is a map of all the dailies with locations. MAP (Thanks to Fiia@Typhiria.)
3. Sell REX and/or credit (THIS WORKS) - This is the system whereby you pay real money to get in-game currency. If you have more money than time this is pretty much what you do. Alternatively you could try to find cheap REX and sell it with a gain or offer your services as a Rift Store seller (calculating your Platinum:Credit-ratio to yield profit).
4. Practice your wall street skills - Analyze the market. Find underpriced items and sell them with a gain. Start small until your capital grows. Aggressively exert total dominance over your shard's Auction House. Expand your business onto other shards to control the region. Extremely lucrative (and difficult to get started).
4a. Dreamweaving is valuable here. Calculate the cost of an artifact vs the value of the ribbons:

- Epic (Purple) Artifacts = 30 Dream Ribbons
- Relic (Orange) Artifacts = 75 Dream Ribbons
